Overview and Duties

The Criminal Investigations Division conducts in-depth investigations involving crimes against persons and/or property.  Members of the Criminal Investigations Division are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are frequently called out or notified in connection to major crimes and incidents. 

After patrol officers complete their initial investigations and reports, all reports are forwarded to the detectives for further review and investigation. Detectives are responsible for conducting interviews with victims and witnesses; locating and processing evidence; recovering stolen property; and conducting interviews with suspects and arrestees. They execute search and arrest warrants, make arrests and assist the patrol division as needed.  Each member assigned to the division receives extensive specialized training in conducting in depth investigations. 


Detective duties include:

  • Preparing and filing cases with City, County and District Attorney’s Office
  • Conducting follow-up investigations for missing persons and juveniles
  • Investigate complaints of narcotics activity, human trafficking, and internet crimes
  • Provide assistance to external agencies for criminal and non-criminal matters
  • Sex Offender Registry

Detectives are assigned or participate in several investigative groups and task forces such as:

  • Alliance for Children
  • Chisholm Trail Intelligence Group
  • Fort Worth Intelligence Exchange (FW INTEX)
  • Regional Intelligence and Security Committee (RISC)
  • Texas Gang Intelligence Index (TXGANG)
