Driving Safety Courses

If you are charged with a traffic offense, you may be eligible to ask the judge to take a driving safety course to dismiss the charge. The request must be made before the appearance date on the citation. It may be made either orally or in writing.


Motorcycle Operator's Training Course

If you were operating a motorcycle, you must take a motorcycle operator’s training course.


Transporting a Child

If you were the driver charged with transporting a child, not in a safety belt or child passenger safety seat system, you must take a driving safety course that has 4 hours of instruction about seat belts and child passenger safety systems.


Requesting the Course

You may request Defensive Driving via court [at] ci.crowley.tx.us (email), regular mail, or in person at the Municipal Court counter, or by Certified Mail no later than the 11th calendar day after your citation is issued.

Certified Mail / Email

If you are mailing your request by certified mail, it must be postmarked by the 11th calendar day after your citation is issued. A copy of your valid Texas driver's license and proof of insurance must be included.  Required state, local costs and administrative fee may be paid online or in person after paperwork is received.


At the Time of Request

At the time of the request, you must do the following:

  • Present proof of financial responsibility (liability insurance).
  • Plead guilty or nolo contendere.
  • Pay court costs and an administrative fee.

Case Postponement

The case will be postponed for 90 days to allow you time to complete the course and turn in the Driving Safety Court Certification. You must attend a driving safety course that has been approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or a motorcycle operator’s course approved by the Department of Public Safety.
