Baby Moses Law

Safe Baby Site

If you have a newborn that you're unable to care for, you can bring your baby to a designated safe place with no questions asked. The Safe Haven law, also known as the Baby Moses law, gives parents who are unable to care for their child a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated safe place (any Texas Fire Station, EMS Station, or hospital). All City of Crowley Fire Stations are designated Baby Moses sites, or Safe Havens, where mothers can leave their newborns (up to 60 days old) with an on-duty firefighter. If the infant is unharmed and left at one of the designated sites, you will not be prosecuted for abandonment or neglect.

When you place your child in our custody, we will offer you a voluntary form to fill out to provide medical information about your child or yourself that may effect your child later in life. You do not have to provide your name or any information that you do not wish to share. The form is also located at the bottom of this page for convenience if you would like to print and fill it out ahead of time.

See the list of Crowley Fire Stations to the right of this page. We can be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week at one of the listed locations. In the case Crowley Fire Department personnel are unavailable or on an emergency call, please call 911.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE AN INFANT UNATTENDED OR OUTSIDE. RING THE FIRE STATION DOOR BELL AND HAND THE INFANT TO AN EMPLOYEE.
