Job Summary

Displays highest degree of knowledge in all aspects of fire fighting, fire operations, fire techniques and the fire service.  Responds to all EMS/Fire calls while on duty.  Carry out tasks as assigned by the senior officer in charge, both in the job place and on the scene. Cares for the sick or injured persons according to Texas Department of Health guidelines.

Pay Range:

Starting salary: $69,583.60 -$90,812.00 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.   • Know and follow all Fire Departmental protocols. 
  • Perform participatory work of considerable difficulty in fire suppression, rescue, salvage and overhaul, emergency medical activities, and hazardous materials operation in the field and other related duties as required.
  • Administer emergency medical aid to the sick and injured. 
  • Fill out and file fire and ambulance reports. 
  • Participate in teaching of Fire Prevention activities in schools; participate in day-to-day station duties and activities; can be capable, once trained, to operate department vehicles, radio, telephone and general office equipment, all medical devices and modes of treatment, as needed for the sick or injured and fire suppression equipment. 
  • Drive Ambulance.  May supervise other Fire or EMS personnel when authorized by a chief officer. 
  • Work both indoors and outdoor, is on call at all times.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Capable to climbing to various heights, lift more than 150 pounds, drag fire hoses, carry and set ground ladders, help and effect rescue. Requires physical endurance and mental stability
  • Ability to follow orders as handed down by fellow firefighters, officers, and Fire Chief
  • Be capable of keeping complete detailed records and make effective verbal and written reports when needed

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Texas Certified Paramedic in good standing
  • Current Basic certification with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection
  • Valid Class B Texas Drivers License or Class B Exempt
