1. How many animals are allowed in my household?

Per Sec. 10-81 of the Crowley Code of Ordinances; no more than no more than three dogs and cats shall be housed, kept, harbored or permitted on or in any private dwelling or premises.

2. Do my animals have to be registered with the City of Crowley?

Your pet is not required to be registered with the City of Crowley.

3. Whom do I need to contact if there is an animal running loose?

Please contact the Police Dispatch at 817-297-2276 during regular business hours. Please note that animal control does not pick up loose animals after 5:00 pm or on the weekends.

4. Whom should I contact if my animal is missing?

Please contact the Animal Shelter at 817-297-2201 EXT 3300 during regular business hours. If we are not available, please leave your name, address, a description of the animal and when the last time the animal was seen by you on your premises.

5. Whom do I need to contact if I find an injured animal?

Please contact the Police Dispatch (817) 297-2276 and they will dispatch the animal control officer to the injured animal’s location.

City Council

1. When are the City Council meetings held?

1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month at 7:00 pm. The City Council Meetings are held in the City Hall Council Chambers at 201 E. Main Street.

2. How do I sign up to speak at the City Council meeting?

A person wishing to address the City Council on matters not scheduled on the City Council Agenda may do so under the Citizen and Visitor Participation section of the agenda.

3. How do I obtain a copy of the City Council agenda?

The agenda is visibly posted at the City Hall entrance doors, or you can view a copy of the agenda on our website after 5:00 pm on the Monday before a regular scheduled council meeting. A hard copy can be provided upon request from the City Secretary's Office prior to the meeting. Copies are also available on the night of the City Council meeting.

4. How can I get public information?

In compliance with the Texas Public Information Act, simply complete a written request, forms are available online or at City Hall and submit it to the City Secretary's office. The Texas Public Information Act provides the City up to ten working days to respond to your request. Accident Reports must be requested to the Records Clerk at the Police Department. 1. What is considered to be high grass or weeds?

Any person in control of property commits an offense if grass and/or weeds are permitted to grow to a height in excess of 12 inches.

2. Whom do I need to contact about a property with high grass or other unsightly conditions?

Please contact the Code Enforcement Officer at (817) 297-2201 ext. 3020 with the physical address of the property. If you do not know the physical address, please give a description of where the property is located.

3. I have received a warning notice on my door and my time is up. Can I get an extension of time to correct my violation(s)?

It may be possible, but you will need to contact the code enforcement officer who issued you the warning. The contact information will be on the warning notice.

4. Does Code Enforcement handle abandoned vehicles parked on the street?

No. Code Enforcement only handles vehicles that are on private property. For abandoned vehicles parked on a city street or highway, please contact the Crowley Police Department at (817) 297-2276.

1. When is an inspection required?

Most of the permits issued by the City of Crowley require inspection. The type of permit issued determines the type of inspection needed. The permit clerk issuing the permit will instruct you to call for inspections if one is required.

2. Is a permit required for a garage sale, fence or accessory building?

Yes, regulations limit the number of garage sales allowed each year. The location, height and sizes of fences and accessory buildings are also regulated. Building Permit Application

3. If I have an existing electric/gas water heater in or accessible from the garage, and need to replace it, must I get a permit and must I raise it 18 inches above the floor?

Yes, codes have been changed to prevent accidents. The water heater thermostat energizes the heating element when the water temperatures within the tank falls below a certain selected level. At the instant the thermostat activates, a spark results. This spark is a source of ignition for flammable or combustible vapors (i.e., gasoline) that may have accumulated along the floor of the garage. The 18-inch elevation is intended to keep ignition sources above these vapors that are heavier than air and settle to the garage floor. 4. How is my property zoned?

Each parcel of land within the corporate limits of the City of Crowley is situated within a particular zoned district. The official zoning map is available for inspection in the Community Development Department at City Hall.

5. Do contractors have to register with the City of Crowley?

Yes, all electrical, plumbing and mechanical contractors must register with the City of Crowley to do work in Crowley. The annual registration fee for Masters is $100.00. Re-registration (if registered the prior year) is $50.00.

6. How long does it take to get a Permit?

Some permits are available at the time the permit is filed and fees are paid. However, new construction or remodeling may take 2 - 3 working days to be reviewed. Commercial permits may take up to 10 working days for review.

7. What information will I need when requesting a Building Permit?

Complete the application, including contractor's name and address, owner's name and address, project address and drawings. Non-Residents may obtain membership by presenting a valid government issued form of identification, a utility bill and paying an annual Non-Resident Fee of $15 for the initial card and $10 for each additional family member.

1. Why should my home have Smoke Alarms?

In the event of fire, properly installed and maintained smoke alarms could save the life of you and your loved ones. By providing an early warning signal, you and your family may be able to escape to safety.

2. Are Smoke Alarms difficult to install?

Be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions! In most cases, the only tool you need is a screwdriver; some brands are self-adhesive. Crowley residents may contact the Fire Department to install and/or check home Smoke Alarms for FREE. 3. If I saw someone intentionally start a fire (arson), who do I call?

No, we can only address Crowley citations.

2. Can I pay my spouse's citation?

No, only the person who received the citation or his/her attorney can enter a plea on the citation.

However, once a plea has been entered, an arrangement can be made allowing anyone to make a payment.

3. What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders, credit cards. You can also pay online.

4. Whom do I call before I dig?

First, please check with the Permits Department at (817) 297-2201, Ext. 3000 to see if you need a permit for your project.

After you have contacted the Permits Department and obtained the proper permit, please call Dig-Tess at (800) 344-8377 for all utilities except water and sewer.

Also fax your request to Public Works Administration at (817) 297-5042 for water and sewer line locates.

Please note that there is a 48-hour notice requirement for line locates.

5. Whom do I call if I have some tree limbs and/or brush that I need to dispose of?

You can dispose of small diameter tree limbs and/or brush with your regular trash pick-up.

If the limbs and/or brush cannot be put in the regulation containers, it should be placed in bundles (not to exceed 48 inches in length) or disposable containers, not to weigh more than 50 pounds each, and placed on the curb on the second regularly scheduled day of collection.

6. What do I do if I suspect I have a water leak?

7. What do I do if I have an emergency water leak after hours or on the weekend (i.e., broken water pipe, hot water heater breaks, etc.)?

Call the Crowley Police Department at (817) 297-2276. They will dispatch our "on-call" Public Works person to turn off your water so you may make repairs. NOTE: If it is NOT an emergency, an after-hours service call may be charged to your water account.

8. I need to have my water turned off so I can repair a leak (i.e., dripping faucet, running toilet)?

Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, please call Utility Billing at (817) 297-2201, Ext. 1010 or Ext. 1020, or Public Works at (817) 297-2201, Ext. 3200. All repairs must be completed by 4pm in order for the water to be reconnected on the same day.
